Become a water saving hero

Water Saving Week 12th-16th May

This week marks Water Saving Week, a national initiative led by Water Wise that encourages us all to take small, meaningful steps to reduce our water usage. The message is simple but powerful: become a water saving hero. Whether it’s shortening your shower, fixing a dripping tap, or only running the washing machine with a full load, these small actions can collectively make a big difference.

Why Water Saving Week Matters More Than Ever

The urgency of this campaign has never been clearer. According to the Met Office, the period from February to April 2025 was the driest since 1956. With warm, dry weather expected to continue into the summer, the pressure on our water resources is mounting. While sunny days may be welcome, the prolonged lack of rainfall poses serious challenges for households, agriculture, and the environment.

In our region, Anglian Water Services has been proactive in preparing for these dry conditions. Their strategies include investing in infrastructure to reduce leakage, promoting water efficiency among customers, and developing long-term plans to secure water supplies for future generations. What you can do?

Water Saving Week is a reminder that we all have a role to play. Here are a few easy ways to get involved:

  • Take shorter showers: even cutting back by one minute can save litres of water.
  • Fix leaks promptly: a dripping tap can waste over 5,000 litres a year.
  • Use water-efficient appliances: look for eco settings on dishwashers and washing machines.
  • Collect rainwater: use it to water your garden instead of turning on the hose. You can view our range of water butts here.
  • Turn off the tap: while brushing your teeth or washing dishes.

Water Saving Week isn’t just about individual action, it’s about our collective responsibility. When we all commit to using water wisely, we help protect this precious resource for ourselves and future generations. Together, we can make a difference.
